Bob Uslander, MD, is the co-founder and medical director of Empowered Endings in San Diego, California. With 30+ years of experience as a physician in emergency medicine, palliative care and hospice care, Dr. Bob supports patients and families through major health and life challenges – especially as the end of life approaches. He is dedicated to helping people live with joy, and without fear and struggle, at any stage of life, and especially in the face of challenging or terminal illness.

Kate Hayes, Design Principal and Landscape Architect of Sacramento-based Miridae, and Dr. Jun Bando, Executive Director of the California Native Plant Society, will be talking about how we can transition our yards from water-thirsty lawns to low-water California native plants. The State of California’s Save Our Water campaign is encouraging Californians to make water conservation a way of life. And something as simple as changing the way we garden can have a huge impact!

Steven Raichlen is synonymous with barbecue – he is the James Beard Award-winning author of an impressive array of New York Times bestselling cookbooks, a Barbecue Hall of Famer, indefatigable barbecue anthropologist and a PBS star. He is celebrating the 25 year anniversary of his award-winning cookbook “The Barbecue! Bible” which unlocks the secrets of live-fire cooking with top dishes, the tastiest sauces, and insider techniques and tips.

Plant-based nutritionist Sharon Palmer, aka The Plant-Powered Dietitian, will be talking about “The Plant-Powered Plan to Beat Diabetes: A Guide for Prevention and Management”. This cookbook includes 100 plant-based diet recipes for evidence-based diabetes management, along with step-by-step meal plans and plant-based cooking strategies, regardless of whether the goal is to go vegan or simply move to a more plant-forward eating style.
