Sydney Ross Singer is co-author of “Dressed to Kill” first published back in 1995, and now available again in a revised “Second Edition” version, which has the subtitle “The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras.” This book has its roots in a personal crisis in the authors’ lives, when Soma Grismaijer was shocked to find a lump in her breast while pregnant. Looking for clues that might point to the origin of this lump led the husband-and-wife medical anthropology team to develop a new theory and to conduct an extensive survey of nearly 5,000 U.S. women, half of whom had breast cancer, in an attempt to uncover a hidden cause of this devastating disease. In “Dressed to Kill”, authors Singer and Grismaijer explain their unique approach to researching and understanding the cultural causes of disease in an easy-to-listen language that is accessible to the layperson and the professional alike.
Dr. Jennifer Pfleghaar (Dr. Jen) is co-author of “Eat. Sleep. Move. Breath: The Beginner’s Guide to Living A Healthy Lifestyle”. Dr. Jen works at local emergency rooms in the community and her office in Perrysburg, OH practicing Integrative Medicine. Her own health history of Hashimoto’s and having children sparked her interest in Integrative Medicine. She is very passionate about helping patients with chronic disease and letting our body heal itself. Since the pandemic, many Americans have gained weight, struggled with depression, or stopped any sort of exercise routine. In “Eat. Sleep. Move. Breath.” the authors boil down the solution to four key areas, or cornerstones: eating well, activity, sleeping, and relaxing. One small change, they say, is the place to start to build a stronger body, stable mind, and vibrant faith.
