“Don’t Let Your Day Get Hijacked!”
I’m sure you might be reading this and wondering what I mean by ‘hijacked’. Have you ever woke up starting your day in a positive way, and you’ve got it all planned out to the best of your ability? You got up early, wrote your list, dressed for success, and you are ready to start your day. You should always remember those words “your day”. Then, you get a phone call from someone close to you saying that their day didn’t quite work out like yours, and they need your help putting out their fires for the day.
This can happen to any of us, and it can be caused by a number of things. Hoping that it’s not an emergency, we need to always remember to not be so stuck in our ways, and know that we can’t always help out. My husband dropped his phone the other day and needed it to be repaired. He also has not gotten around to fixing his low tire, which had been low the entire weekend. Also, my kids needed advice on a project they were working on, and I got a call from one of my tenants saying that they have a leak. It’s Monday and it all needs to happen today.
Well, that’s an example of my day getting hijacked. Can you set any boundaries in a situation like this? Can you set aside a certain amount of time to help these situations? It’s your job to not let others hijack your day. Remember, we have worked so hard to start our day in a positive way.
Yes, life happens, so be resilient to your schedule. I always make time for things that are emergencies as we never want to be too busy or close minded.
Ask yourself, is this something that needs my assistance or am I being sucked into someone else’s fires? Do we always have to put out all the fires? Be mindful of your day and your responsibilities. Do you find yourself the designated problem-solver among your associates, family, or friends? Take notice of the people in your life that might be your human vampires. Always have your emotional radar on so you can stay focused on your target.
Now, take on your day!
