Patti Wukovits lost her daughter, Kimberly Coffey, to group B meningococcal disease, also known as MenB, at age 17. Following the tragic loss of her daughter, Patti founded The Kimberly Coffey Foundation to educate parents about the dangers of MenB and the importance of vaccination against it. She wants to ensure that no parent or person ever has to go through what she and her daughter did.

Dr. Michael Foggs is Chief of Allergy and Immunology at Advocate Medical Group of Advocate Health Care. He has practiced and conducted clinical research in allergy and immunology for over 30 years. He will be talking about about recognizing uncontrolled asthma symptoms and a new treatment option for patients with asthma called SPIRIVA® RESPIMAT® (tiotropium bromide) Inhalation Spray, which is the first new class of inhaled medicine approved for asthma in over 10 years.

6am Show: December 9, 2017 – Patricia Ravitz “Marriage and Family Therapist”, Dr. Kaj Winther “Bone and Joint Pain”, Scott Becker “Building Better Communities”, Katie and Kelly McMenamin “Organize Your Way”

Patricia Ravitz is the president of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and a licensed psychotherapist, in private practice for over 25 years. She will be talking about prevalent mental illness is in the state of California and what its residents can do to seek help. She’ll also discuss how a marriage and family therapist can help with many issues ranging from depression, addiction, and eating disorders and matters beyond couples counseling.

Dr. Kaj Winther will be discussing the most common causes of bone and joint pain from aging and sports injuries – to the most common cause – arthritis. He will explain who is most likely to suffer from this condition, some of the causes and how it is treated. He’ll also talk about how supplements are helping ease the debilitating pain and the availability of newer, more effective supplements that are safe for long-term joint care.

Scott Becker will be talking about how The Nissan Foundation has awarded a number grants to Non-Profits in LOS ANGELES to support programs that promote the value of cultural diversity in American Society. The Nissan Foundation was created as a thoughtful response to a societal need that still affects communities today. Dr. Gregory Jantz is the author of “Healing the Scars of Childhood Abuse: Moving Beyond the Past into a Healthy Future”. He then outlines the steps to lasting healing, including grieving what was lost, learning to balance emotions with intentionality, regaining a positive relationship with one’s own body and mind.

Jack Cheevers, spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), will be telling us everything we need to know about the Medicare Open Enrollment period. If you have a Medicare health or prescription drug plan, you only have until the end of Open Enrollment, December 7th, to make changes to your 2018 plan. Even if you are happy with your current Medicare coverage, you might find something better. If you miss the Open Enrollment deadline, most people will have to wait a full year before to make changes to their plans.

Dan Tufto, President of Medicare for Humana’s West Division, is responsible for a large portfolio of Medicare Advantage plan offerings that improve health and well-being for consumers and produce a simplified experience that help health care easier to navigate.He will be giving details about choosing the right plan this enrollment season. Tim O’Neil will be talking about the Irish Wake for our Great Inflatable Green Pig who was our mascot and most popular entry in the annual County Ventura St. Patrick’s Day Parade for 26 consecutive years. “Shamhock”, often referred to as “Pig of My Heart” and “Shamrock”, had a fatal tear in his parachute material frame at the Judges’ Viewing Stand at the 29th Annual Parade. In his honor, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee is hosting An Irish Wake and Memorial Procession on his/her behalf. The event will take place in Historic Downtown Ventura on Thursday, November 30, 2017, beginning at 4:00 PM at the Ventura Museum, and proceed up Main Street to Dargan’s Pub at the corner of Main and Chestnut.

6am Show: November 25, 2017 – Maryann Wahmann “Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network”, Dominique Ceccarelli “Helping Your Kids Deal with Math Anxiety”, Dr. William T. Cefalu ““Diabetes”, & Patricia Ravitz, LMFT “Dealing with Trauma from Natural Disasters”

Maryann Wahmann co-founded the Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network (NCAN), a nonprofit whose mission is to intensify awareness of neuroendocrine tumors and carcinoid cancer among the general public and in the medical community around the world. She will Maryann will be joined by her doctor, Dr. Hal Gerstein, a medical oncologist to discuss the signs and symptoms of this rare disease and the challenges of living with carcinoid syndrome.

Education expert Dominique Ciccarelli will be giving advice to parents on how to lessen math anxiety. Instilling confidence early is one key factor.
Math skills at kindergarten entry can predict later math achievement. Research shows that children of highly math-anxious parents were more likely to develop math anxietythemselves when their parents helped with homework.

Dr. William T. Cefalu will be discussing why it is important to step up, suit up and join the ADA in improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes. He will encourage everyone to take a stand by writing a letter to “Diabetes” via a letter or video format and using #DearDiabetes becoming an advocate to support efforts to find a cure, improve access to health care and protect the rights of people with diabetes; or to share the campaign #ThisIsDiabetes with their family and friends.

The people who experienced the Valley and Wine Country Fires in California have been heavily impacted by it. Some fled the flames in terror, some lost everything including pets and livestock, many did not know if their homes or businesses survived, and evacuees were just waiting to get home. Patricia Ravitz, LMFT, Past President of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, will be talking about dealing with trauma from natural disasters. They’ll also discuss how a marriage and family therapist can help with many issues and the stress to rebuild.
